Do you remember the last time you visited the dentist? Was it last week? Last month? Last year? Long enough ago that you don’t remember?
Did you know that visiting the dentist every six months is not only recommended, but it’s also covered by almost all dental insurance plans? In fact, biannual cleanings and examinations are considered to be the cornerstone of a healthy and attractive smile, and are not something that should be skipped. It takes almost no time at all for decay, infection, and periodontal disease to set in. Visiting our office every six months helps to ensure these issues are caught before they become worrisome problems – helping to save you time and money while preserving your natural teeth for years to come.
Your Role in Oral Health
In addition to twice-yearly visits to the dentist for cleanings and examinations, the care you take of your teeth every day will play a significant role in the strength and appearance of your smile. To help ensure optimal oral health, be sure to:
- Brush After Every Meal. Ideally, you should brush after every snack as well, using a soft-bristled toothbrush and a toothpaste with fluoride to fight cavities
- Floss Both Morning and Night. Floss before you brush to loosen tartar, plaque, and food particles from in between teeth, allowing your toothbrush to do the rest of the work
Providing you do not have any porcelain restorations, you may want to look into adding an antibacterial mouthwash to your daily oral hygiene regimen as well. This is something we can discuss with you in greater detail, based on your needs and desires, during your routine office visits. We take time to listen to concerns, provide honest information and support, and educate our patients on the most effective oral health methods. We personalize this information so that it is most pertinent to each patient’s individual needs.
